A successful September for the Hope Against Cancer Team

What a month September was for the Hope Against Cancer team! Our hard work and dedication was really in the spotlight, with the team winning two prestigious awards recognising our contribution to the community and inspiring others.

Lets take a look back at a successful September.

Celebrating a September to remember

Our first award of the month came at the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Leicestershire Business Awards, where we were presented with the ‘Community Impact Award’. This prestigious award was open to organisations which had demonstrated continued commitment to supporting the local community and the good causes within it.

It’s always special for us when we see the difference our work does in the community of Leicestershire and Rutland. Over the years, we’ve met some truly inspirational people in the local area, whether they’re undergoing clinical trials at Leicester Royal Infirmary or attending one of our fundraisers.

We like to think we’ve been able to bring families and communities together and that’s what makes receiving the Community Impact Award all the more incredible.

Tracey Hallam, Eileen Richards

Recognising the special people at Hope Against Cancer

Following this fantastic achievement, our amazing Corporate & Events Fundraiser Tracy Hallam was named ‘Inspirational Woman of the Year’ at the Leicester Mercury Women in Business Awards. These awards celebrate the success of businesswomen across Leicestershire and the contribution they have made to the local community.

Tracey was also nominated for the Contribution to the Community Award because of the hard work she does in raising awareness of our work in funding local cancer research and supporting the people it affects. With great dedication and enthusiasm for her work, Tracey organises and manages various fundraising events and it’s wonderful when we see how well-supported these are by the Leicestershire community.

Tracey explained, “I’m determined to ensure that anyone affected by cancer has access to better treatments, through our research.”

Tracey adds, “The funds we receive from our fundraising events and generous donations go towards funding vital cancer research locally and supporting our Hope nurse at our clinical trials facility at Leicester Royal Infirmary which we hope will lead to better treatments and ultimately, a world where nobody is affected by cancer. That’s what I dream of achieving!”.

Tracey wasn’t the only Hope Against Cancer member taking home an accolade at the Women in Business Awards. Eileen Richards, who is on our Board of Trustees, took home the highest honour of the night; the Businesswoman of the Year Award. An award which is definitely well-deserved!

Eileen has been a passionate supporter of the charity’s work, and we were all quick to celebrate Eileen’s outstanding achievement. She and Tracey are both absolutely amazing people – we wouldn’t be where we are today without their hard work and dedication!

Nigel Rose, Hope Against Cancer’s Chief Executive, expressed, “September really has been a successful month for everyone at Hope, it is a great honour to have received these awards, and it’s a testament to the work everyone here does. I’d like to say a special well done to Tracey and Eileen on their award wins too, it is exactly the recognition they deserve for their hard work and passion they show in their fields.”

Well done everyone!

The success at these awards has put our work in funding life-saving research in the spotlight. We hope that this means we can continue funding research projects and supporting clinical trials in Leicestershire and Rutland.

Huge congratulations to everyone here at Hope Against Cancer – we’ve had a fantastic September and here’s to more celebrations in the future!
