Hope supports Leicester's Centre of Excellence

In 2014, Hope Against Cancer joined a partnership with the University of Leicester and Leicester hospitals in a bid to become a prestigious Cancer Research UK Centre in Leicester. This is part of the Cancer Research UK Centres of Excellence network – a chain of 15 research hubs that have been established across the country. The network draws together world-class research and medical expertise to provide the best possible results for cancer patients.

The aim is to raise standards of care, and enable researchers who do not normally work together to exchange ideas and information more easily.
Based across the University of Leicester and the Leicester Royal Infirmary, the centre is setting the pace for national and international progress in lung cancer and cancer that affects the immune system.

The partnership means a new generation of cancer researchers and clinicians are trained in Leicester and Cancer Research UK will invest an additional £1 million over three years in Leicester. Hope was instrumental in the partnership bid being successful.

Hope has committed to raise £450,000 over three years to help fund the Centre.
