Gifts in Wills & Legacy Donations

Legacy of Giving

We all think of what we will pass on from our lives, what we will leave to be remembered by. As well as taking care of loved ones, we all give thought to continuing to do good in this world after we have passed - or of giving thanks to the people and organisations who have helped our own lives in some way.

Legacy of Hope

Hope Against Cancer derives a significant proportion of its income from Gifts in Wills. Without this income, a vital proportion of our funding for cutting-edge cancer research projects and trials at the Hope Cancer Trials Centre could not be maintained.

Leaving a gift to Hope is a remarkable contribution to your community.

See below two excellent options designed to make it easy for you to include Hope Against Cancer in your Will. Making a planned gift to HOPE not only provides vital support to our mission, but also leaves a lasting impact for the local community.

Based in Leicester city centre, Paradigm Wills will help Hope supporters draw up a Will at a HUGE 40% discount, and will also donate 10% of their usual fee to Hope Against Cancer.

By letting them know you wish to support Hope Against Cancer, their single Will costs £105 plus VAT (normally £175 plus VAT), and Hope Against Cancer will receive a £17.50 donation. Mirror Wills cost £150 + VAT (normally £250 plus VAT), and will generate us a donation of £25. Any legacy you wish to leave from your estate will be in addition to this initial donation.

Satwinder Sidhu from Paradigm Wills has these general remarks about the advisability of making sure your Will is in order:

"If you do not have a Will, you have no say over what happens to your assets when you die, and this can cause difficulties for those you care about most.

Because of this, everyone should have a Will; this is particularly true if you own property or any other assets, are married, have entered a civil partnership, or have a long-term partner. It also applies if you have children or other dependants, and especially if you have children from different relationships.

It is a common belief that, if you are married or in a civil partnership, your spouse or civil partner will automatically inherit everything you own when you die. In fact, they don’t, the law sets out rules that determine how your assets are to be divided if you should die without making a Will which means your spouse may not inherit automatically and children could also lose out on their inheritance if the Will is not structured properly.

Also, you can make specific gifts to charities within a Will which could help reduce any tax liability if applicable but is also a great way to give back to local community charities enabling them to continue supporting the community and a way of a thank you if they have personally helped you or someone close to you."

If you’re happy to undertake your Will writing online, following guided instructions before finalising arrangements in a video call with a solicitor, then you can write a free Will with Bequeathed. See the three easy steps of their process below.

Of course, we would be most grateful if you made a donation to us, in lieu of the solicitor’s usual fee, and leave a legacy in your instructions. When using this option please select Hope Foundation as your charity of choice on the online form.

This is what Tamara Shanks had to say about the service:

"We were very happy with the service we received from Bequeathed and the company; Accordwills, to whom they referred us. The Zoom call we shared with Kevin was a lot simpler and friendlier than I had anticipated and therefore far less painful than I had expected, knowing the aura that surrounds 'will making'.

We only needed to change executors, as our Will had been written over 30 years previously but it was nice to know that we could obtain a new and free Will that also allowed us to donate one hundred pounds to a charity of our choice which is Hope Against Cancer, a local Leicester research charity."
